Costume, Make-up and Props Ideas

In our group we spent a while going through what Caitlin should look like and the props she should use. During the filming, Caitlin would usually always be in summer/festival clothing due to the time of year and the activities she would be getting up to. We were ultimately looking for a fashionable and authentic teenage girl to look the part of the popular, innocent ‘missing’ girl. Thankfully, Caitlin’s wardrobe fits the description of Daisy perfectly so we didn’t need to buy any new clothes / props.

We then had to make her look scared and injured. We placed her in a festival outfit (even though it was October) and made her look like she’d been abused.

Make-up:

In some scenes Caitlin is seen on a night out, and her make-up portrays a sparkly bronze look for her eyes and nude lips to make her look simplistic yet glowing. For the day trip shots Caitlin is shown wearing a more minimal make-up look, and more age/situation appropriate due to the activities during the day. For Caitlin’s festival looks she is seen with a sparkly silver shine across her cheekbone which portrays a fun and ‘festival’ look. Caitlin is already a very innocent-looking and pretty teenage girl, so the make-up is just to emphasis the stereotypical traits belonging to a girl such as heavy make-up and loving fashion.

When we had to film Caitlin in the dark car scenes we had to make her look beaten-up and ill to add to the thriller genre and create a fear element. We used eye shadow palettes and make-up brushes to re-create bruises and black eyes on Caitlin’s body and face.

 

Hair:

With Caitlin’s hair most of the time it was styled as to how she wanted which fit perfectly with the image we wanted Daisy to have. Up dos, buns and natural hair are all portrayed throughout our trailer. The hair style that we really wanted to display in Daisy was the ‘Dutch Braid’ that is stereotypical of a teenage girl either at festivals or on holiday as it looks pretty and removes any hair from bothering the face. This also helped emphasis Caitlin’s make-up. Caitlin’s hair was mainly done by Charlotte who perfected the braids and buns making Caitlin look as good as possible.

 

Costumes Ideas:

For ‘Daisy’, we wanted a vibrant, colourful and summery wardrobe to fit with the time of year and her persona. We went through our wardrobes individually and picked out the perfect outfits we wanted Caitlin to be wearing. This further exaggerates the image we are trying to create of Daisy as being the trendy, popular stylish girl. The outfits we chose fit this description as they are currently very stylish and commonly seen on young girls.

For Jaq he just had to wear a classic suit, nothing too special just to portray his character of the News Reporter.

 

Props:

Finally, the props we included are vital in emphasing the character and location of Daisy. We needed to include; water bottles, bags, passports, swimming inflatables, fans etc. This helps provide a realistic image of a holiday, festival, day out and all the little things that accompany it. Product placement is apparent when Caitlin is drinking from a ‘BUXTON’ water bottle, and holds it in her hand long enough for the audience to realise.

Another prop we used was black leather gloves, rope, and fake blood to make Caitlin’s character seem authentic and that she was actually being taken.

The gloves were used to make the character mysterious and not known. The rope was used to tie Caitlin’s arms to allow the audience to realise she was being taken away without her consent. And the fake blood was clearly used to make Caitlin look as though she’d been hurt along with the process of being taken.
